Cape Town – Former Idols winner and singing sensation Karin Kortje has risen from the ashes like a phoenix after her many trials and tribulations which included a boyfriend convicted of the murder of guest house owner Renate Kellerman nearly two decades ago.

She is now on a path of redemption, healing, restoration, forgiveness and self-love.

A mother of four, Kortje married police officer Angelo Makka in January this year in a romantic wedding ceremony in Paarl.

Makka and Kortje, 44, met through a mutual friend and she described him as being a gentleman during recent interviews and said that they immediately had chemistry.

This year marks six years of their relationship.

In a package of TikTok videos, Karin delved into an emotional chapter, the day of the murder and its aftermath.

She told of how she and her former manager, Jabu Mlotshwa, had discovered Kellerman’s body in a bedroom shared by her and her boyfriend, Cheslyn Williams, and how they had come to know the guest house owner a night before the killing.

She revealed that informing police that Williams was the murderer was a form of justice for Kellerman.

In happier posts, she shares about the joys of parenting, her love life and even about her siblings.

In a video about her wedding, Kortje is dressed in a beautiful wedding gown and serenades Makka.

In another video, she explodes with joy speaking about her love for Makka and how he completes her.

“I am so vasgevang (enthralled) in my marital bubble, I wanted to dedicate a song to my husband and to all the couples looking for love. Believe in love because it is real and it will overcome so many things.

“To my husband, Angelo, Mr Makka, I love you so much, you are my heart and soul. I can’t wait to share this journey with you, you make me so happy, you make my heart smile, you keep me grounded.

“And I love you and you keep me humble, and I love you for that and just know that I believe in you and me.”

She then sings Whitney Houston’s song.

Williams died in 2015 of leukaemia while imprisoned.
