The annual Shri Mariammen prayer and 2025 Simha Travel Mount Edgecombe Easter Festival will be held from April 17 to 21.

Seelan Achary, the chairperson of the society, said preparations for the event at Shri Mariammen Temple on Siphosethu Road have been underway since January.

"Prayer coordinators, queue management, bhajan groups, security, and general staff are in place to welcome thousands of devotees to the annual pilgrimage to worship our supreme Mother Mariammen. This prayer is rich in history, culture, customs, traditions, and practices," said Achary.

"The festival has an exciting new flavour to its entertainment programme. Four community radio stations will broadcast live each day, bringing in new energetic artists and offering a kaleidoscope of different genres of bands, singers, dancers, and comedians. The ever-popular Pic-A-Box Competition, sponsored by various businesses, will also be with us once again."

He said the 25th edition of the Ammen Awards would be held on Friday, April 18, from 11am at the Mount Edgecombe Arts And Culture Centre on the premises.

Speaking on the nominations, he said he was amazed but not surprised by the quality of individuals and groups doing volunteer work in various communities.

"They give credence to the motto 'ordinary people doing extraordinary work'."

Achary said devotees, who would like to serve meals during the prayer and festival must make the necessary arrangements with the temple society, so that the parking and feeding facilities are properly arranged.

A variety of stalls and car dealerships will be present during the festival.
