Durban: In what was probably the first major high profile film preview to be hosted in Durban since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, a special screening of New Material, starring Riaad Moosa saw the who’s who of town come out in their finest to celebrate the film.
The screening was held at Suncoast Cinecentre in Durban last night.
New Material is the sequel to box office hit Material, the heart-warming film about a dutiful young Muslim man who moonlights as a stand-up comedian in Joburg nightclubs.
In New Material, much-loved character, Cassim Kaif (Moosa) continues to ply his trade as one of South Africa’s few Muslim comedians while balancing the demands of a marriage, a young child, and living in a house with his ageing parents.
His father Ebrahim (Vincent Ebrahim) has reluctantly accepted his son’s chosen career for now, but it is still a simmering issue.
Laced with comedic moments and its heartfelt plot, New Material is produced by Ochre Moving Pictures and Blu Blood Africa. The film is directed by Craig Freimond.
