LOCAL film-makers Arish Sirkissoon, aka Lx Seth, and Dr Rajendra Singh are set to have their film, The Castle, open at local cinemas on Friday.
Directed by Sirkissoon with Singh as executive producer, the psychological thriller has an underlying theme – "trust nobody“.
The movie was written by Sirkissoon, who is also a musician, with contributions by Singh, a Pietermaritzburg dermatologist, both of whom also act in the film.
According to the plot, on their wedding day Michael (Sirkissoon) and Catherine (Rio Segal) break down in the middle of nowhere. They walk for several kilometres when they discover an old castle.
Against her better judgement, Catherine is persuaded by Michael to spend the night there. Once she enters the castle, she feels as if something is watching her. What she discovers in the castle will change her life for ever.
Singh said he was also the main supporting actor.
“I contacted Arish regarding my movie, Love has No Boundaries. However, due to budget constraints he asked me to get involved in his movie and I decided to accept the proposal.
“He asked me to become the executive producer and act in the movie. Since I have acting experience, I decided to get involved. In between my busy schedule, I managed to take time off and act in the movie.”
The cast also includes Edwin Cole and Sibongiseni Shezi.
Filming began about six months ago, mainly in KwaZulu-Natal.
Singh said most Indian movies was based on comedy or love story plots. They decided to follow a different direction.
“We decided to create a psychological thriller. It is important that the local audience support locally-produced movies so we are able to create more job opportunities in the movie industry in South Africa.
“We are thrilled that large, prominent cinema houses like Nu Metro and Cinecentre support local movies. It is now up to the local audience to support us at the cinema so that we are able to continue to create more movies in our beautiful country.”
Sirkissoon is no stranger to film-making. In 2021, he released Tokoloshe: The Calling. The movie went to many festivals, including the Durban International Film Festival, Durban Film Mart and The African International Horror Film Festival. The movie is currently nominated for six Simon Sabela Awards, including best feature, and is currently on Amazon Prime and several platforms worldwide.
The Castle will be showing at Nu Metro countrywide and Cinecentre at its Suncoast and Pietermaritzburg cineplexes.
