LIFESTYLE - SUN Pictures CEO Kalanithi Maran has pulled out all the stops to offer a gem of a movie in Etharkkum Thunindhavan which opened at cinemas at the weekend.
The film is based on a true story and appeals to audiences across the spectrum.
After successfully launching a couple of his top movies directly onto the OTT platform, superstar Suriya has delivered a top-notch performance as Kannabiran, a lawyer.
Kannabiran goes on the warpath to hunt down a bunch of criminals who show no respect for the dignity of women by secretly videoing them in their private moments and broadcasting these on social media platforms.
Their action wreaks havoc in the lives of the victims and their families which Kannabiran experiences first-hand when his newly-married wife also becomes caught up in this sordid mess.
Kudos to director Pandiraj who unflinchingly has chosen the topic of cyber blackmail that is a global scourge.
His message to the masses is loud and clear: women are not sex objects, and they should not buckle under pressure when they find themselves in this situation. They should be bold and full of confidence when dealing with the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
Veteran actors Sathyaraj, Saranya and Bhasker play their roles with aplomb and are used to their full potential in their respective roles.
Hero-turned-villain, Vinay Rai, plays the role of the gloating gang leader, Inba, to perfection.
There are some light-hearted scenes which are a respite from the engaging drama on screen which Soori, Comali and Saranya tackle gracefully.
Cinematographer R Rathnavelu has framed all the scenes of Etharkkum Thunindhavan in a manner that makes you feel as if you are also part of the movie. The camera angles and lighting are tastefully used to enhance the movie’s entertainment value.
Music by D Iman compliments the movie effortlessly. If you enjoy the Kuthu genre of music, then the songs of Etharkkum Thunindhavan are just what the doctor ordered.
A major plus for the movie are its action sequences. The stunt twin brothers Anbu and Arivu, who are well known as Anbarivu, deserve special mention as they have delivered some of their best stunt choreography.
The climax of the movie which has some of the best action scenes will have you holding your breath in anticipation.
Etharkkum Thunindhavan does not disappoint.
This is a movie for the whole family and one that should be watched by all youth and those who are social media savvy.
The lesson that one can learn from this movie is: use social media responsibly.
