Johannesburg – An intelligence-driven operation by police in Standerton, Mpumalanga, police has led to the recovery of a vehicle worth about R85 000 that was stolen in May 2018.

The SAPS announced that a white Toyota Etios was positively identified as the vehicle stolen in Centurion, Gauteng, in May 2018.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit in Standerton gathered information and employed the services of Standerton K9 to conduct the operation.

"Investigation led (officers) to a house in Meyerville in Standerton where the suspicious vehicle was spotted. Upon police's arrival, the suspect ran away, evading arrest," Mohlala said.

The police investigation on the vehicle with no registration numbers was conducted, and it was positively identified as the vehicle stolen in Centurion, Gauteng, in May 2018.

"The vehicle was confiscated and taken to Standerton SAPS. Currently, police are still on the lookout for the suspect and hope to bring him to book soon," Mohlala said.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, applauded the excellent work conducted by the members. She also called on community members to alert police of any suspicious criminal activities.

"The suspect might have evaded arrest for now, but with all resources we have at our disposal, surely within no time the suspect will be traced and arrested" said the general.
