About a week into the 2024/2025 mid-season transfer window, there has already been speculation about some of possible moves that could shake up the PSL...

Al Ahly and the PSL

Egyptian football club Al Ahly is allegedly trying to swoop in on Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng, according to Soccer Laduma. The Cairo-based club are trying to finish the move during the January transfer window, Egyptian media reported.

Mofokeng will have an opportunity to play against his potential new home team, as the two clubs go head-to-head in the group stages of the CAF Champions League on January 18.

Former Sundowns star Percy Tau is also finalising his move from Al Ahly after a successful stint since joining the club in 2021. Tau is reportedly moving to Qatar SC.

Pirates may keep Makhaula

Orlando Pirates are likely to offer 35-year-old midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula a contract extension, according to KickOff. Makhaula’s contract with the Bucs comes to an end in June.

Pirates management are reportedly offering Makhaula a one-year contract. The former AmaZulu player’s performances over the last season could be the reason for the Soweto giants’ extended interest in him.

Makhaula is the oldest player in the Pirates current line-up.

Kwinika’s misty future at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs academy’s by-product Zitha Kwinika could likely part ways with his club, following a season on the bench under coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Kwinika did not make an appearance so far in the 2024/2025 season, according to Citizen Sport.

Despite enjoying two seasons at Amakhosi during his former stints with the club, Kwinika did not fit into coach Nabi’s vision this season.

Tunisian Nabi opted for Miguel Cardoso and Rushwin Dortley in his defence for the season, pushing the 31-year-old Kwinika to the bench.

Thalente Mbatha’s new price tag

Orlando Pirates midfielder Thalente Mbatha has a new price of around R20 million, according to Soccer Laduma, after the club concluded a new valuation.

This comes amid rumours of an English Championship club taking interest in the Bucs midfielder. Mbatha’s performance’s for Bafana Bafana have also contributed to his new price tag.

However, Pirates are not ready to let go of Mbatha yet, indicating that they are happy with his performance.

Iqraam Rayners peaking interest in Europe

Mamelodi Sundowns star Iqraam Rayners has piqued the interest of another European football club following his consistent performances, Soccer Laduma reported.

Sundowns insiders have hinted that a Belgium club are looking at acquiring Rayners.

Prior to this, Rayners also attracted an offer of R55 million from Scottish club Rangers FC. | Independent Media Sport
