Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs scored in either half as they secured a 2-1 Betway Premiership win over Richards Bay at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening.

The result will be a pleasing one for Nasreddine Nabi, who watched his team return to winning ways after a spell of poor results before the international break.

The goals on Wednesday came courtesy of Wandile Duba and Ashley du Preez, but it was captain Yusuf Maart who was the chief creator and had a hand in both.

Duba put Amakhosi in front in the 2st minute of the encounter when he side footed a beautiful cross from Maart into the back of the net.

Chiefs continued to dominate proceedings, and could have scored more goals. However, Richards Bay’s low block was able to keep the score down to 1-0 in the first half.

The second half started badly for Nabi’s men as Reeve Frosler was shown a second yellow card for a kick on an opponent and was given his marching orders.

Despite being a man down, Chiefs found themselves 2-0 up when Maart was once again the midfield orchestrator, playing Du Preez in with a delightful through ball through the middle.

With just the keeper to beat, Du Preez picked his spot and doubled Chiefs’ advantage.

With Chiefs seemingly cruising to victory, Richards Bay reminded that the game wasn’t over when Yanela Mbuthuma directed a header from a Lwandile Mabuya cross past Brandon Petersen in the Amakhosi goal.

Chiefs were able to hold out for the win, and moved up to sixth in the league, while Richards Bay stayed 14th.

At Athone Stadium in the Mother City, skipper Thamsanqa Mkhize scored the only goal of the game as Cape Town City beat Polokwane City 1-0 to move up to 10th place.
