Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mduduzi Shabalala has reportedly attracted interest from an unnamed European club, thanks to his impressive performances for the Phefeni Glamour Boys this season.

Shabalala who rose through the ranks at the club has been in fine form this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist in 11 appearances in the Betway Premiership.

His impressive performances for Amakhosi have won the admiration of the club's loyal fans and coach Nasreddine Nabi, who  has praised his impact this season.

"I prefer not to speak about individual players because of the team spirit and mindset, but Shabalala has been good," the Tunisian coach said.

The Soweto giants are also working hard behind the scenes to secure the 20-year-old a new contract that will extend his stay at the club.

However, while Amakhosi are making efforts to retain his services, a source has told Soccer Laduma that the player has garnered interest from an unnamed European club.

Shabalala was also said to be the subject of interest from the Belgian side KSV Westerlo last season.

“No it’s not the same team (KSV Westerlo who he went on trial with). It’s a different club all together but there has been interest from another European club for Mdu (Shabalala).

"The club (Chiefs) is aware of that but they are not putting pressure on the player as he is enjoying his game at the moment and they are not entertaining any interest from other clubs, as things stand. But they are not sure how long they will hold onto him with the form that he is currently in,” said the source.

“They are aware of the interest and they didn’t want to lose him. Whether for free or not, and that’s why they have offered him a new contract as a guarantee that he is still there player. Also, the coach believes in him and he doesn’t want to lose him in this situation, where the team finds itself right now. So for now, though there is European interest in Shabalala, Chiefs are making sure they keep him."
