Though not a hot hatch in the strictest sense, the Suzuki Swift Sport has garnered a following among boy racers as a simple yet fun hatchback. Let's hope the same applies to the new version, of which Suzuki has just released the first official picture.
At face value, stylists have done a good job pimping up the looks with a large single-frame grille, bolder bumper, sporty wheels and rear spoiler. The cabin is said to reflect the same attitude.
Talking attitude, the Swift Sport is fitted with a new 1.6-litre petrol engine, with outputs having risen from 92kW at 6800rpm to 100kW at 6900rpm and there's also good news on the torque curve, with twisting force up from 148Nm at 4800rpm to 160Nm, lower down at 4400rpm.
It'll also be a better cruiser on the highway, with the previous (and under-geared) five-speed gearbox making way for a new six-speed manual. It'll be a good handler too, thanks to struts with internal rebound springs and a bespoke rear-suspension design. Safety spec includes seven airbags (including one for the driver's knee) and ESP stability control. As with most of the cars we've introduced to you lately, this one will make its first public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
