Durban - While walking in the Kenville area of Durban on Wednesday, a pedestrian was robbed of his cellphone by two suspects armed with a replica gun.

According to Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell, at approximately 9.15am while on routine patrol in the Kenville area an armed response officer was flagged down by a member of the public on Kew Road.

Powell said the pedestrian asked the armed response officer for assistance after being robbed of his cellphone by two suspects.

He said the victim informed the officer that one of the suspects was armed with a firearm and that both suspects were still on Kew Road. The officer immediately responded and spotted the two suspects on Kew Road.

“One suspect was immediately arrested by our armed response officer,” said Powell. He said the second suspect unfortunately managed to evade arrest.

“Upon searching the suspect a replica firearm and the cellphone belonging to the robbery victim were found in his possession,”said Powell.

Powell said the Greenwood SAPS were dispatched and arrived a short while later.

He said the police then transported the suspect to Greenwood Park SAPS, where he was charged with armed robbery.
