Balmain brand revival
The Balmain Paris Fashion House, founded in 1945 by Pierre Balmain has always been known for its feminine, elegant style. More recently, the brand has undergone a revival when Olivier Rousteing stepped on board in 2011 as creative director of Balmain Paris at just 24 years of age. Since then, the luxury fashion house has become synonymous with edgy and sexy collections that have changed the catwalk forever.
“Olivier Rousteing’s revival of the Balmain brand has led to a number of inspirational collaborations with several A-list celebrities including J-Lo, Kanye West, Nick Jonas, Rihanna, Joan Smalls, Jordan Dunn, Kim K, Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj. Furthermore, this transformation from elegance to edgy has led to top models, including Gigi Hadid, to champion the brand so that they too can be associated with the luxury fashion house,” explains Inge Peacock, managing director of Glamit, importer and distributor of international hair and beauty products including Kardashian Beauty Hair and now too Balmain Hair Couture.
An Opulent Hair Care Collection
To support Rousteing’s strong and empowering design work, Balmain is the only luxury fashion house in the world to create a collection of indulgent hair care and styling products, made with only the finest Silk Protien, to manage the tresses of fashion house’s models both on and off the ramp. Now this range of luxuriously opulent hair care will be making its way to South Africa and is set to transform the locks of fashionistas and glam squads alike.
“To ensure the exclusivity of Balmain is upheld, the brand’s opulent hair care and styling collection is used backstage by professional stylists at all the Balmain collection shows in Paris. It is this very collection that will be gracing the shelves of high-end salons, retailers, as well as the Glamit website from spring onwards,” says Peacock.
Catwalk Coiffeurs
The Balmain Hair Care Collection and its key ingredient, Silk Protein, provides the perfect foundation for creating the label’s edgy and sexy catwalk coiffures. The Balmain Silk Protein contains 17 of the 19 essential amino acids that naturally occur in hair. Balmain Hair Couture’s paraben-free shampoos and conditioners, by way of example, are available in Volume, Moisturising and Revitalizing variants. The instantly refreshing Dry Shampoo and cuticle-smoothing Leave-In Conditioning Spray will leave fashionistas with fresh, flexible and shiny hair. For extra care, Balmain’s Repair and Revitalizing masks will transform dry, damaged and over-processed hair into beautifully strong and deeply nourished tresses.

The fashion house’s devotees can also add the Texturizing Salt Spray for flexible texture & volume, Styling Powder for long-lasting volume at the roots, as well as Argan Moisturizing Elixir for brilliant shine to their beauty routines. Tools such as ceramic brushes that lock moisture into strands for a shiny and healthy look; the Professional Titanium Straightener, which creates luscious curls or perfectly straight styles; as well as the Professional Infrared Blow-dryer, which dries hair from within to minimise the risk of damage and reduce drying time, are sure to give fashionistas some of their best hair moments yet.
Undoubtedly, the most eagerly anticipated offering is the highly sought-after Silk Perfume, which detangles and repairs damaged hair, protects against external damage and provides a lightweight silk finish whilst infusing follicles with Balmain’s signature scent, which Vogue magazine describes as resembling a “beautifully expensive French candle”.
A Head Start on International Trends
“For over 40 years, Balmain has practiced the art of combining hair essentials with the latest catwalk trends and now under the creative watch of Rousteing, it too has been given a sexy and edgy spin. There can be no doubt that hair care in South Africa is about to be taken to the next level with the addition of this rich and luxurious range to our A-list portfolio,” concludes Peacock.
The Balmain Hair Couture collection will be available exclusively from Glamit’s online portal, as well as high-end salons and retailers nationwide.
