It is no secret that South African wildlife, particularly the rhinos, is in danger. According to Save The Rhino, about 499 rhinos were killed in South Africa in 2023, which is worrisome because it’s a 10% increase compared to 2022.

To help save the rhinos, local luxury brand Ardmore has launched a collection of Armoured Warriors scarves.

“Inspired by the plight of the rhino, the magnificent new silk scarf design was conceived in tribute to this endangered species. Statistics indicate that one rhino is killed every day – making the ongoing fight against poaching a critical tool in ensuring the future of this majestic creature.

“To support its conservation, a percentage of each scarf sale will go to Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary,” said Fée Halsted, founder of the brand.

She added that the scarf collection seeks not only to raise awareness about the ongoing threat posed by poaching but also honour the tireless efforts being made to protect the species.

The collection came about after the brand’s artists Wiseman Mpofu and Victor Mtshali spent some time in the bush, observing anti-poaching scouts on patrol and the lengths they go through to protect the South African wildlife.

“Care for Wild is the largest orphaned rhino sanctuary in the world and specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation, rewilding and protection of orphaned and injured rhinos.

But its mission extends much further – to the protection of endangered species and the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems that allow them to thrive,” said Halsted.

“To create a design that would convey the meaning behind their mission and this collection, designer Catherine Berning, drew on these powerful ceramic pieces, as well as the striking ‘Jabu’ wallpaper by renowned textile designers Cole &Son, to weave together the story of the majesty and might of the rhino.”

The limited collection is a100 pieces.
