TAYLOR: A TRIBUTE TO THE ERAS OF TAYLOR SWIFT

This one is a must-see for the Swifties out there.

While there’s no substitute for the real deal, this one comes close to providing an experience that pays homage to Taylor Swift while also entertaining fans. 

So if you are looking for a finger-snapping, toe-tapping good time, the live band and dancers joining Josette on stage will help with that. 

Theatregoers can expect to be dazzled as Josette belts out all the hits from “Shake It Off”, “Anti-Hero”, “Cruel Summer”, “You Belong With Me”, “Love Story”,” I Knew You Were Trouble”, and “Blank Space” to “Bad Blood”.

The blinged-out costumes and visuals create an electrifying ambiance.

If you are suffering from FOMO because you are based in Cape Town and Durban, worry not as the show is headed to your city after the Joburg run. 

Durban audiences will get to catch it from April 27 to 28 at the Suncoast Casino while Cape Town will get to experience it on May 3 at GrandWest Casino.

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID

In keeping with the musical theme, this production, directed by Vicky Friedman, is one not to be missed as well. 

Touted as a larger-than-life production with a heart-warming story intertwined with catchy songs and hilarious antics, Friedman shared: We can’t wait for audiences to witness the incredible talent we’ve discovered through our extensive search. This cast brings energy, heart and pure joy to the stage - Zoo-Wee Mama, it’s going to be an unforgettable experience.”

Based on the best-selling children’s book series, it follows Greg Heffley, the lovable underdog, as he attempts to navigate the chaotic world of middle school. This entails dodging the dreaded Cheese Touch and dealing with wacky classmates while trying to climb the popularity ladder.

His journey is laden with side-splitting moments that will delight the young and the young at heart.

When: April 4 to May 4, 3pm.

The animated cast of 'Seussical Jr.'

SEUSSICAL JR

If you are looking for a whimsical escape for the little ones, “Seussical JR” fits the bill perfectly. 

The much-loved show has been delighting curious minds from March 11, with the run continuing to April 21. 

Of course, Dr Seuss's children's books - not to mention the delightful characters from it - come to life on stage at the Peoples Theatre. 

Little ones are invited to the magical musical, where their imagination takes flight with the adventures of Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Judge Yertle The Turtle, Mr Mayor, The Grinch,  Mrs Mayor and Sour Kanagroo.

The cast - some of whom play several characters -  includes Grant Towers, Katlego Nche, Madelein Pienaar, Noluthando Mathebula, Raymond Skinner and Amelia Stephens.

Director Jill Girard said: “The books of Dr Seuss have been the stepping stones to reading for many children and introduced them to a wonderful range of characters and positive concepts. Now we bring them to life in front of their eyes and create theatre magic for them.”

Where: People’s Theatre. 

When: Runs until April 21. From Tuesday to Friday, performances are at 9am and 11am. On public holidays and weekends, it is at 10.30am and 2.30pm.
