The hit Netflix series “The Mabaso’s Family Reunion”, which features some of South Africa’s top stars, is returning for a second season.

The principal cast comprises Bonko Khoza, Natasha Thahane, Lerato Mvelase and Thulani Mtsweni. Jerry Mofokeng, Alfred Ntombela, Lungile Yende and Yolo Noruwana feature in support roles.

The new dark comedy has been the streaming platforms most watched TV shows since it premiered last month.

It centres on four estranged siblings who reunite at their Joburg family home following the death of their mother.

Driven by lust, fame and materialism, the siblings have their worlds turned upside down when they discover a coffin stuffed with cash and the wrong body.

This forces them to come together as they must come up with schemes to outwit ruthless criminals and the law.

The series is the work of the award-winning Black Brain Pictures, which also brought viewers “Piano Love”, which saw renowned rapper Kwesta (real name Senzo Vilakazi) make his acting debut, as well as “Isitha: The Enemy” and “DiepCity”, among several others.

They recently took to Instagram to announce the news of season two by posting: “Let’s cook 👩‍🍳 The Nation is hooked 👀, and the streets are already asking: What would Season 2 of Mabaso Family Reunion even look like? Drop your Season 2 title suggestions 👇.”

The production house is helmed by the legendary executive creative director and film producer, Mandla N.

He told “TshisaLIVE” that his team is in the writing phase, with exciting plans for the next season.

“We will definitely continue [the production], the people love it,” he said.

The new season is expected to start filming next year. Mandla N added that they are still debating whether to name it the “Mabaso Baby Shower” or “Mabaso Reunion”.

He also confirmed the original cast would return, with a few new faces joining the line-up.

“We might have one or two interesting people we will bring in. It's exciting times.”
