Manenberg police are investigating an attempted murder after a 9-year-old boy was shot in the head.
The shooting took place in Towerkop Road on Sunday at around 12.30pm, while the boy was playing outside.
Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk, said: “The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this stage and forms part of the investigation. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital for an emergency procedure.”
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man was expected to appear in the Germiston Regional Court on Monday for operating an illegal drug laboratory in 5th Avenue in Primrose, Johannesburg.
Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase said: “He was arrested on Saturday, July 8 by the members of the East Rand K9 unit who were patrolling along 5th Ave in Primrose when they spotted a man who acted suspiciously upon seeing the police. He ran to the house and police jumped into action, chased and apprehended him next to the garage. They allegedly found in his possession a packet of a substance suspected to be drugs, then proceeded to search inside the house.”
Inside the house they found more of the white substance, suspected to be tik, along with scales, chemicals and other things used to manufacture drugs.
The Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Germiston were called to the scene along with the Local Criminal Record Centre and the SAPS’s Forensic Science Laboratory.
The case was referred to the Hawks for further investigation.
