Cape Town - Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has wished Cape Town’s Jewish community a happy and sweet new year as the community observes the Jewish new year.
Hill-Lewis turned to his social media pages to share ‘Shana tovah u’metukah’ in respect of the Jewish community’s new year celebrations, which the community began celebrating on Sunday, September 25 and will observe until Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
Hill-Lewis said: “On behalf of the City of Cape Town, I’d like to wish all Jewish Capetonians a happy and sweet new year.
“Cape Town is a city that prides itself on its rich diversity of cultures and religions, and our social fabric is woven together with the many different cultural and religious celebrations of our communities.”
“May the new year bring a sense of optimism, a feeling that the lives of everyone in our beautiful city can and will become better, safer, more prosperous, kinder, and more loving,” he said.
I’d like to wish all Jewish Capetonians shana tova umetuka.
