Cape Town - Heart FM DJ Luwayne Wonder trended on social media at the weekend after a video of him surfaced where he is confronted and physically assaulted by an apparent drug dealer asking him for the money he allegedly owed.

In the 39-second video clip, the alleged dealer says: "Who do you owe money to? How much money do you owe me? You mos famous on radio now I’m gonna show you I’m gonna make you famous for coke (cocaine) money."

Independent Newspapers reached out to Wonder but did not get a response on Sunday.

He later addressed the viral video on his social media with a statement, saying it was a financial loan and not for cocaine.

The statement reads: “He came to my residence asking and needing the money I owed. I couldn’t settle it at the time he was there. The money was a loan which I had taken out from him and he got word that I had allegedly used the money for substance. It was a financial loan and nothing else I’m being accused of. The loan has been settled by me and the other party.”

At the same time, Heart 104.9 also released a statement on their social media, saying they are aware of the video.

The radio station said: “This is a personal matter and unrelated to the station. While we respect the person’s privacy during this difficult time, we remain committed to providing the high-quality broadcasts our listeners expect. We trust this radio host will make the best choices for their personal journey with the various platforms available to them should they choose to use them.”

This is not the first time Wonder has been in the spotlight.

In 2022, he was accused of having an affair after dumping his sick wife who suffered a brain haemorrhage after giving birth to their third daughter.

In 2020, Wonder sent an urgent plea to listeners asking his friends and followers to help him raise R500 000 to bring his wife back to South Africa from Dubai.

However, his wife claimed that Luwayne used the funds raised for her medical treatment to buy himself a flashy car and entertain his mistress.
